Waiting for news of that baby! Meanwhile, hope this doesn’t come as too much of a shock, we have a new baby, too! Her name is Evelyn (Evie for short) and she arrived on 9 September, three days ago, in the base hospital.

I had my suspicions that I was pregnant again (though the very last thing we intended) before we left for Canada, but, of course, I kept quiet about it, or we, Frankie and me that is, would have been told the trip was off. I didn’t even tell Swindon until I was almost four months gone, and I played my part so convincingly that they refused to believe me at work at first, and said I was in line for promotion!

Hope you are not too cross we kept this a secret. Anyway, I didn’t want to upstage you, Penny. May your labour be like mine, swift and easy this time. Swindon says he can’t believe his luck – two beautiful daughters and a gorgeous wife (I had to prompt him to add that) when not much more than two years ago he had no hopes in that direction at all!

I wish I could pass Evie over to you to hold and admire; she’s not much like Frankie – what little hair she has is very fair (or tinged with red?!) except for the big, blue eyes. Frankie isn’t too sure if she approves of this little thing who has taken Mummy away from her, but she’ll come round, and Swindon wangled leave so he could look after her himself.

So it looks as if we will be in Canada for quite some time yet, maybe even until after the war, maybe eventually for good – I love living here – so who knows? Will keep you posted with pictures and news!

This time, I’m going to do the mothering bit, because I want to, and I’m ready for it, you see.
